However, the question remains “why do people love the Dachshund this much?" Well, the story of Razor, a tiny dachshund who saved a much bigger St. Bernard, might help you understand better.
In Belen, N. M, Razor, a dachshund dog owned by Tim Chavez is credited for saving his other pet, St. Bernard. According to Tim Chavez, on Sunday afternoon, the 9-year-old St. Bernard got loose and ran out. Razor kept on trying to get the attention of Tim, as according to Tim, he wouldn’t eat. He barked at everyone with any chance he got. He even tried to alert the neighbours, as he kept on barking at them as well. Razor didn’t relent, as he kept on causing a scene and running around aimlessly. This nuisance, however, would turn this tiny dog into a hero in some moments.
Razor ran off and stopped at an irrigation ditch. It was the irrigation ditch where Jazzy, Tim Chavez’s St. Bernard was stuck. Luckily, a passerby saw Razor running and quickly followed. When they all got there, they found the 180-pound St. Bernard stuck in the mud. She was in over 2 feet of mud and was believed to have been there for 180 hours. Belen fire fighters and police officers rushed over to the scene in a bid to help out. After several attempts, using backboard straps and a long spine board, like they would for a human, Jazzy was saved.
Belen fire fighters and officers testified that they had never seen a dog so dedicated to helping out. According to them, it was a heroic action that they haven’t experienced in a long while. Razor was honoured by the Belen City Council and will forever be remembered for his bravery, compassion, and intelligence.
